I started a side business online in December of 2006 and within five months my online business was making more money than my day job. Two months later, my site was on the first page of Google.com searches for the types of products I sold. Two months after that, I resigned from the company after working there for 5 years and never looked back.
My name is Clifford and I'm a big fan of startups. In fact, back in 2002, I used to work at a famous dot-com company with a silly name that only had 133 employees. Today the company enjoys world wide recognition through racy Super-Bowl commercials, and has over 4,000 employees on staff.
In the five years I invested to help grow the company, I fixed problem after problem. In 2002, I started the highest revenue generating sales group, which now handles thousands of customers. In 2003, I turned their billing department around from drowing in the red to a profit center. Through 2006 to 2007, I worked with some of the smartest software developers in the company to create site-building tools that enabled our customers to build web pages across the world. I managed products that brought in over $20 million in revenue per year and in August of 2007, I left to do my own thing.
Fast forward to 2011 and now I have an online store, an online directory service, and a few more projects in the works. Now that I've outsourced the shipping component of the online stores, I can now go do whatever I need to do, wherever. For example, in 2010, I spent more than half of the year traveling and 5 of those months overseas.
Why I wrote this guide
Many of my friends have asked me out to lunch or drinks to chat about how to get started and to bounce ideas off me.
After telling the story and answering so many questions over and over again, I decided to save everyone time by putting all the info into an easy to read eBook that has examples, strategies for marketing, and other useful pieces of information.

This was the question I kept asking myself when I decided to leave my job. I had grown my own company out of my garage and now it needed me more than ever. I could stick with my job and guarantee myself the same paycheck every two weeks or I could focus on my own business and grow it as much as possible.
So in 2007, at 5pm on Tuesday, August 21, I took a leap of faith and resigned. I liked my job and the people I worked with but I knew that I could always go back to have lunches with my friends.
Don't wait until you're unemployed
Look at the news today and you'll see stories about the stock market plummeting 400, 500, or even 700 points. Turn around and you'll see another story about a half million job layoffs across the country, people losing their homes while working two jobs, and it is clear that we can't rely on job stability anymore nor can we rely on credit to live.
I wrote this guide for ANYONE who has ever walked into their job wishing they didn't have to worried that it was going to be their last day.
Using myself and my own online store as an example, my guide will illustrates how someone can start a side business in their spare time, become successful, and be able to be financially more stable without relying on credit or worrying about losing their home.
